Savory Living - Make Healthy Eating Happen!

What is an FSA and an HSA?

FSA - If you are not enrolled in a High Deductible Health Plan with a Health Savings Account (HSA Account), you might be enrolled in a General Purpose Health Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) which is an employer sponsored benefit that enables employees to set aside pre-tax dollars out of your pay check to pay for eligible health care expenses (not taxed when you use it to pay for eligible health expenses). Monies put into the account avoid both Federal Income Tax and FICA. The average savings is about 25-30%.  NOTE – Limited Purpose Health FSA accounts are NOT eligible since those are only for Dental and Vision eligible expenses.

HSA - If you are enrolled in a High Deductible Health Plan, you might have a Health Savings Accounts (HSA Account).  This account allows you to set aside pre-tax dollars out of your pay check, let it grow tax free (interest, or even invest it), and even withdraw it tax free at anytime in the future (the money never forfeits) so long as you use it for eligible health expenses.

How does eligibility and coverage/reimbursement work?

Every company is different so you need to confirm with your HR group - but here's how it typically works. The Savory Living program falls into two categories:  Nutrition Support and Weight Loss Program.  Most FSAs and HSAs requires two things to cover/reimburse the program - and we facilitate both for participants:

1.  Evidence of Medical Necessity

A Doctor's prescription that the healthy eating program is recommended for the treatment of a medical condition (most medical/health related conditions qualify).

Click here to view the doctor prescription form >

What you need to do: Save and print the doctor prescription form and send it to your Doctor's office.  Your doctor needs to check off the boxes and sign the form. After you have completed the program, you need to submit BOTH the completed Doctor Prescription Form and your Program Completion Receipt (see below) to your FSA administrator. HSA participants just need to keep this prescription form and the program completion receipt (see below) in their income tax files in case they are ever audited and need to supply supporting documents.

2.  Program Completion Receipt (verification of program completion and payment)

After you've finished the Savory Living 10-week program you'll be invited to take the final survey (to get your eating well plan).  In this survey you'll be asked if you need a completion receipt.  Select yes and enter the health condition(s) your doctor included in your prescription form. We'll email your customized receipt to you.

Take care and we look forward to seeing you in the program!
